Bias is alive and well in the workplace despite many companies best efforts to eliminate it. Some organizations are earnestly trying to understand how pervasive bias is in their culture and how it influences hiring, firing, promoting, and compensating employees. It’s not an easy task as much of the bias today is subtle.

The question is how can companies create a level playing field for its employees regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, race. Diversity and inclusion programs thus far have demonstrated limited success. What will make the difference and truly move the needle toward more fair business practices and behavior

The answer may lie with each individual. Companies that create a safe environment for employees to challenge the status quo without backlash have the opportunity to develop allyship for diversity in their workplace, and these advocates can make a difference by speaking up when witnessing discrimination; one situation at a time, one person at a time.
